Governor Brown Signs Toughest Equal Pay Act In Country

On October 6, 2015, Governor Jerry Brown signed a modification to California Labor Code Section 1197.5, which strengthens the California equal pay statute with the intention of limiting the "pay gap" between men and women. According to a U.S. Census Bureau report out this year, women in California who work full time are paid a median 84 cents for every dollar men earn for the same work. The new law took effect on January 1, 2016.
